Doesn't happen all the time but since I've taken over my new A6 (C6) Avant, there are times when one of the headlights (bixenon)doesn't turn on and I get a light out warning.
If I turn the lights on and off with the switch, it usually comes back on.
Anyone else have this issue???

Yeah, sounds like the bulb(s) are starting to go bad. I had the same promblem with my B7 A4. When it happened to me I took it to Audi and the charged me $130 to tell me that the bulbs needed to be changed. It was $730 for 2 new bulbs and labor from Audi. Crazy, ... I called up ECS tuning orded a set and took it to my friends mechanic shop ... problem solved!!! Do be cheap with the bulbs though, each one had its own balast.(hope I spelled right)and change both at the same time with german brand. I have have adaptive headlights which work fine just like they used to. The lights are brighter too because I went with 4800K instead of the stock 4000 or 4300K. Let us know how you make out.

I have exactly the same problem.
Sometimes if I turn the light on then off and back on within a short time.
For example if I turn my car on and off within a short time my right headlight sometimes will not turn on and I get the "lights out" warning.
My Audi mechanic has said to me that it may be the bulb or it may be the igniter.
