There's no way for a mechanic to 'check a fuel filter' without actually removing it and emptying it and even then it does not mean that it's 'ok'...so if it were me, I'd get all the maintenance that I called out in my original response to you done ASAP. Get a fuel filter and change those plugs...visual inspection from the outside does not mean anything.
As for the air filter.
Where to buy: http://genuineaudiparts.com/
Instruction on changing it (and a LOT of other maintenance): https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho....php?t=2760602
Also, clean out the following snow screen: http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._5011008_n.jpg
Lastly, the air filter on the C6 is cylindrical, the cabin pollen filter (for the passengers to breath 'good' air) is rectangular - 2 of them

I had the car inspected by an audi shop in town around 2 months ago. He said there were no codes. He said fuel filter looked good. The plug he pulled looked good. Air filter could use changing.
Any advice for where to get an air filter? I've looked around and different sites had two different kinds listed as fitting. A cylinder style one and a square one. I couldn't figure out how to get to my air filter - but judging by the container of what i thought it was - it looked cylinder style. Can anyone confirm that for 2006 A6? Where do people buy theirs online?
Also thanks raj99 for your comprehensive answers on all other topics.

Read up on it and make your on decision as to the difference it can make...opinions are subjective. But gasoline producers and automakers have created a standard called Top Tier gasoline's because automakers felt minimum detergent standards weren't good enough for their vehicles.

No worries. BTW, I'd make a full list of all the things you need for maintenance and then just order everything from genuineaudi and you'll be set. I figure you'll need the following:
6 spark plugs
fuel filter
pollen filter
air filter
Also get a full oil change and get the right oil filter (no FRAM!!!)
By ordering from http://genuineaudiparts.com/ you'll ensure you are getting ALL OEM parts and also, that they will work correctly for your car. Heck for that matter, you might as well look at getting your pads and rotors from them as well![Wink](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
BTW, you'll also want to do a transmission fluid change in the near future...there's a LOT of threads on this specific topic, and go for ZF fluid and NOT the north American tranny fluid that's available at O'Reilly's!

OP doesn't have the DIY skills, I'm guessing. He should find a different independent mechanic, one that actually knows Audis, and have him evaluate the car.
Otherwise he's going to end up with a pile of parts and a car that doesn't run.

As a quick update:
Been crazy busy at work so haven't had chance to call around to get price quotes on brakes from shops. Also a lot of shops around here are closed on Saturday![Frown](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
But I did order some parts and installed the engine air filter and the 2x cabin filters. They were a major pain in the *** to do. Each one took me at least an hour to do. But they are done yay!
Will need to order plugs next. Anyone have recommendations for plugs to get? For my old car I always bought NGKs. Any special parts that I'll need for plugs? Or will the regular tools that I already have for most cars work?

Glad to see everything worked out for you...surprised to hear that the pollen filter took as long as it did, but maybe I got lucky and it only took me about 10-15 mins the 1st time.
As for plugs, I believe you mentioned your car is the 3.2, so I believe the NGK PFR7W-TG are the correct ones.
Here's a GREAT write-up in changing out the plugs:

Lastly, also make sure you change out your fuel filter...it's one of the most overlooked pieces of maintenance and can make a real difference in the long run.
