^^^ I replaced the ABS module on my A6 last year. Removing it was tough but could be done within 15 minutes if you have all the tools needed. It's always a good thing to flush the system afterward though because there is now air pocket in the system itself (unless you somehow manage to fill the oil in the module itself prior installation). Let's me check and get back on the ABS module. Rebuild is one option but buying a replacement is what I wen with since I don't trust those people much.
Also, when your ABS light come up like that, the ABS, ESP systems won't work anymore which made it very unsafe driving this coming winter.

On the C5 A6 you could remove the ABS control module from the hydraulics. The hydraulic unit remained sealed and all you sent to the remanufacturer was the ABS electronics. I have not looked closely at the A6 module but I would think that it would separate in the same way, almost all cars do. If that is the case then there is no need to bleed the system.
Failure of the ABS module in the C5's, while not common, does happen and and replacing the entire ABS module is very costly compared to remanufacturing the controller.
And, while the controller is off you can still drive the car, just no ABS or ESP.

I see what you meant. It's different in the C6. I can't quite remember but I ended up taking the whole module off for replacement. Part of the reason I replaced the whole thing also was because most ABS module rebuilders are familiar with C5 model and not C6 model (some even put procedure to take everything apart directly off from C5 model which isn't 100% similar).

It seems that I would better replace the module. How much did it cost when you replaced one? Now, my technitian quoted me $600.00 for only part.

However, thank you for all the helpful info.
