Default Cabin heat stuck on

For some reason, when I set the ACC to auto, the cabin heat turns on to full heat/blower. (It's summer and heat makes no sense) I've got VAGCOM, but have no idea where to start on this.

Not sure if related, but I did just replace the front crossover coolant pipe on the car.

Is it blowing full heat from all of the vents? Or are some of the vents still cool?

All for of the mid-level vents are hot and the blower goes to max speed, regardless of the temperature set point.

I had the same problem. It was fixed by following this instruction.
Just be careful not to break off the bolts. You also do not need to take off the hoses.

I tried this and it worked perfectly. I was a bit surprised, as I really didn't find anything that looked like it was gunking it up, but upon reassembly, the heat is no longer on. Thanks!
