can NAV be added to an A6 ?
Is it possible to do a plug-n-play by adding the DVD player via a fiber optic cable to an A6 that came from factory without NAV ?

Yes, you just jack into the fibre ring.
Does not matter if DIS is color or monochrome like the 08 A6 I helped on.
It's pretty easy to do - worst part is removing C-pillar trim to attach to sharkfin GPS cable.
But if you don't want to do that most of the retrofit kits come with an antenna that sticks up under the hat shelf, of which I have a spare somewhere.
Second worst is running the power to the fusebox on the other side of the trunk.
From there it's just a matter of coding wheel size with VCDS into Nav unit.
I posted a couple links here with part #'s, etc.

We actually found a whole kit on eBay for around $850 new in box.
Attaching a couple pics of connector I saved because I can never find the thread.

Does the MMI contra l panel have the Nav button. Some of the earliest C6s (at least here in the UK) without Nav installed were shipped with a 4 button rather than 8 button MMI panel. If you only have the 4 button version it will be a lot more work to instal the Nav. Also do you have the colour or red MMI screen?

what i have read is all US models were pre-wired for NAV / SAT Radio
so i assume that means all US cars also came with antenna... i have not read otherwise
if your car does not have antenna ...make sure u know what u need ... 4 plug or 3 .. large or small ...c6 units slip on and do not have a larke hollow center bolt ...cord length is also important...
*VAGCom VCDS may be needed for slight programming

what money...
car has fin antenna and NAV button on MMI panel. A used NAV DVD palyer and maybe a connector or two cant cost all that much, I shouldnt think. My customer wants NAV, so doing the upgrade could mean the difference in a sale or no sale.

It is easier just to buy a portable unit and stick it on the window. I like the convenience of my OEM but not worth the hassle of adding it after the fact. Just my opinion.

Like KevinGary said, we also debated a portable unit or phone based GPS.
In the end we think it will also help the resale.
People retrofit thousands of dollars worth of bumpers, grilles, wheels, carbon fiber, and shocks that add nothing for the average consumer [not to mention insurance value] - NAV is a bit more universally desired.
Just depends on what the customer wants and how it affects the value.
Will see if I can find the retrofit manual and scan it for you.

yes it is pricey and the nav OS does have its issues and not as user friendly as the garmins tom toms etc but theres value in OEM
bigger screen
u r not dealing with putting it up / taking down on window each time
future resale value
etc
4E0919887C this is the unit u need (test the unit with OEM Map disk) burnt copies after a while give read errors
its a very easy install
just the trunk... no cords no hassle ... just maybe VAG-Com VCDS programing

Jakematic helped with my install. It was pretty straight forward, mostly being carefully to keep the data flow in the right direction. The most nerve wracking part was pulling the interior panels down to hook up the shark fin. Take your time on that part as the clips are quite strong. The fuse panel has to be pulled to install the power cable so be careful there too. I tried several other gps options but the factory system is much more convenient and reliable (I burned up a phone using it as GPS on a long trip).
