My brother recently bought a 2005 A6 3.2 from an Audi Dealership, certified all that... I notice that the engine makes an unusual ticking sound at idle.... Do these motors SOUND like that or is it valve tick or something that should be looked at? It just doesn't seem to be a smooth sounding motor at all. Idle is perfect doesn't fluctuate at all I mean the car is perfectly sound besides the motor noise, was wondering if that is normal on these cars or if they are usually quiet. Thanks for any input guys!

Engine idles at 700 rpm. Each cylinder injects and fires once every two revolutions. So, each injector fires 350 times a minute, or 5.83 times a second. There are 6 injectors, so every second there are 35 injectors firing. It's doubtful that this would sound like a "tick".
