Default changing ignition coils

I have a 2006 A6 with 79,000 miles. I bought the car with 53,000 and have never changed plugs or ignition coils. Is this something that needs to be done now?

It looks like a simple job. Anyone with suggestions and DIY info?

Its fairly straightforward. The DIY might be in the 55k sticky.

My 3.2 is running on 87k now and I'm 99% sure these coils are the originals.

I was going to run out and replace all of them as well, but after doing some reading, I have decided against it. This bit of maintenance in my eyes is mostly for preventative piece of mind as there isn't a replacement interval for these items. Some last ages and some will die in under 10k miles (based on their construction and difficulty to test on an individual basis). There was a number of years that these coils were known to have manufacturing issues.

That said, I ordered 2 coils and a new set of plugs. The plugs are going in next weekend and the 2 spare coils are sitting in the spare tire well next to my take-a-long code reader. If I get ignition issues, I will have 2 coils to save me on the road.

Manual says plugs at 55k I think. I think that's overkill but would do it if you're at 79 and haven't. I'm at 120k and haven't done coils.

The 55k sticky has pictures of this, and I've seen another picture step-by-step somewhere and used that when I did it. Pretty easy. Hardest part for me was getting the coils out. They were suctioned in there really good. I had a tiny bit of oil in most of the holes that probably made that a lot worse.

If you have the 3.2 there was a recall on the coils maybe 2 years back. Got mine replaced free at around 85K
