Default check DVD in nav unit?

occasionally I get this message on the MMI when I select nav?

sometimes it goes away on it's own....

sometimes I have to eject/reinsert the DVD disk....

sometimes all's I need do is reset the MMI via the manual procedure....

why does this happen, what can I do to get it to stop?

There is a TSB in the library I set up with Dr. Cold. Check the link in my signature.

I had checked the TSB library and none of the conditions apply to my circumstance?

Did you look at the 4th TSB in the navigation section that responds to when the MMI screen says please check navigation DVD?

yes, I went through the entire "check nav DVD" TSB before I posted.

I have had this problem intermittently, the last time it would happen
when I stopped at a specific shopping mall, in warm dry temps as
this shopping mall is away from the water/shore in my town?

it stopped happening for quite some time, and has now returned.

approx 1 in 3 times I use the car/nav it shows "check nav DVD"

usually stopping the car and ejecting/reinserting the DVD clears
the problem, sometimes it takes several attempts?

I had a similar problem that seemed to be resolved with a firmware update when I initially did my nav retrofit. But that was a "new" installation. In your case I assume you have not changed anything from when the car was new and now 5 years later you are having an issue. I can only figure this is a hardware malfunction. I'd first try a new DVD, then perhaps run a DVD player laser lens cleaner disc through the system, and then ultimately it may require replacing the DVD/NAV reader in the trunk. Good luck.

Question, is it safe to use a CD cleaner (the one with the brushes on the DVD-ROM) ?
