Console message... Shift to P
Sometimes, when i get in/out of my car, i have a message on the screen saying "Shift to P, otherwise vehicle can roll away. Doors do not lock if lever is not to P".
Anybody already got this message? Lever is on P for sure.
So i have to put keys in the ignition, turn it on, then back off. Then i can lock the doors.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Archives lean toward a failed trans indicator switch.
I believe the gurus have the TSBs posted around here somewhere.

I'm experiencing the same issue of "Shift to P, otherwise vehicle can roll away. Doors do not lock if lever is not to P" message.
I drove through thick, slushy, dirty snow and immediately experienced a few seconds of reduced engine power (limp mode).
A few minutes later I got the following issues:
1) ESC failure light
2) Tranny will not shift passed 1st gear in auto mode. Sport mode all gears work. (once tranny warms up it shifts fine).
3) Upon exiting vehicle the "shift to park...doors will not lock" message beeps at me. Sure enough, car won't lock. ;-(
Assuming I got a bunch of slushy dirt into the sensors and linkage workings I took it to a car wash for undercarriage rinse. No joy. Problems still exist.
I was think about disconnecting battery to see if that resets anything.
I can't see that TSB posted above. Would that TSB apply to what I'm experiencing?
Thanks for any help.

Audi mechanic wanted to replace the entire shift in mechanism for about two grand. Based on reading some forums I asked them to try replacing the brake fuse first. It worked. Solve my problem. Hopefully yours is as easy.

Thanks for the swift response. My vehicle doesn’t have the esc failure light or fail to shift. The transmission is perfect but the car does not sense when it’s in park. It’s a 2013 Audi A4 with 87,000 miles (140,000km). It reads the same messed you had “shift to p, otherwise vehicle can roll. Doors do not lock”. Is it a sensor issue? Would the brake fuse fix it? They said they’d charge me $120/hour for an expecged 4 hour diagnosis just to find the issue. I’d rather find the solution from those who’ve experienced it. How much for a a brake fuse part and labour cost? Thank you
