cracked vinyl on door panel - ??

Hey - on my A6 3.2 (35K miles still under warranty)... my wife and I were going to dinner and as I was closing the door (she normally drives the car, not me)... I noticed that the actual material on the drivers inside door panel is CRACKING. It's at the trailing edge of the door, about 1/2 way up, right where the rearmost part of the armrest connects.
There is about a 2 inch long crack in the pleather like material that covers the entire door panel. Like a crack in an old saab dashboard... the door panel has never been off or been damaged in any way so I'm not sure why this happened.
Has anyone seen this? I'm assuming warranty will cover this but is this a common problem?

since the vinyl has cut outs for the buttons right on the side of the door, the part is not as strong as it should be, and when you pull on the inner handle to close the door, it stresses that particular part of the door until it cracks.
Took my car to the dealer, showed him how when I pull on the handle to close the door the crack gets bigger, and after showing it to an Audi rep, they agreed to replace it under warranty. Obviously it is a "manufacturer" defect, caused by a weak part (due to the cutouts), and a lot of stress from a heavy door.
My dealer was nice enough and gave me no trouble, but your mileage may vary.

t down to show i reported it under 50k. They claimed there was nothing they could do about it and i must have used the storage lip to close the door.

Hey 05whtaudia6 - this is EXACTLY 100% what my crack looks like... except my door panels are black. Which I guess is good news. I can take this stuff in and print it out. This is clearly an issue occuring on mult. cars.
