I got "AIR BAG" light on on my 2006 A6. Vag COm returned:

1 Fault Found:
01219 - Rear Side Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N201)
001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - MIL ON
And light came back even after I cleared the fault code. Searching internet told me that Audi would charge ~$1000 for new airbag and harness. Which is ok given that they offered me to buy whole new car when I asked for cargo mat on my then 6 y/o C4. There is a TSB 69-08-01 dated 1/14/08 for this but my car is out of warranty I did not expect much in this area. But there are evidence that complaining to audi customer advocate service could help.
Anyhow, I searched more and found that the most likelly issue is the bad contact in harness. So I followed the following steps to fix it.
Note, you about to deal with airbag. here what would happen to you if it deploys:
So do it on your own risk. I am not responsible for any outcome of this.
Also I found this site with the official ELSA procedure: http://elsaweb.spaghetticoder.org/do....23/34165432/3
Seems like a good overall reference.
1. find out which airbag has fault with VAGCOM tool
2. Disconnect ground terminal of the battery

3. remove rear seat bench. You need to pull the front of the seat up until the clips are disengage. After this you can see how it held in place with two metal straps under the seat. To disconnect you need to push the bech backward (pretty hard) and then up.

4. you will see a yellow connectors on each side of the seat. Connectors have sliding lock, three wires and are next to the side airbags. Annoyingly the connectors are placed right in the gap between the airbag and the seat. So it is easy to disturb the contacts by sliding or spilling something into this gap.

5. Since it was the first time issue, I decided to try WD40 on the contacts. It worked. Others made step further, cut of the connector and connected wires directly with cramps or solgering iron. If you up for this, you need to remove the airbag cover as well. Look the procedure in aforementioned ELSA. Note some sources on internet point, that cutting off the connector and directly connecting wires is the official Audi approved procedure.
6. put the wires back in place.
7. put the bench back
8. reconect the battery, set the correct time on the MMI
9. start the engine and wipe out the fault code with VAG COM. In my case the WD40 worked well and the fault did not come back. But next time I will replace the connectors with something else.
pretty simple.
