Good to hear, sounds like you may need a new battery soon.

I believe that the charger should be connected to the charging post under the hood, not to the battery terminals. If you connect the battery terminals the energy management system gets confused and will shut off the cars systems when enough charge has been drawn from the battery.

Also, you list the minimum thickness as 20mm on the rotor. It believe this is correct for the vented rotors but I believe the 3.2's have solid rotors and the minimum thickness is 10mm.

This would be true if all A6's had the charging posts under the hood. In 2005 and I think early 06's they did not have the battery post under the hood. It requireds direct to battery contact. Same with jumping off or with the 05 A6's.

Good point. I did not realize there were no jump terminals under the hood in the 2005's.

Otherwise great write up. I am going to do my rear brakes and I already printed this out to use as reference.

Don't rest the caliper on your wheel unless you want to scratch it. Otherwise, amazing tutorial.

What do you mean by reset/scratch? You meant doing 010 on vagcom for EPB motor?

Default Battery Charger??

What happens if I don't attach a battery charger while i replace the rear brakes? Please advise, I don't have a battery charger at my disposal and I don't really want to own one?

Thanks,
j

I changed mine without the battery charger, without a problem. It didn't take me more than 25 minutes to change both sides. I'm assuming you know how to change brake pads and have a VAG handy.

Yes and yes. I am doing pads, rotors and lines. I will make sure I have everything ready to go with the car on stand and wheels off before using the Vagcom then. I am assuming the risk is draining the battery while doing the work correct?
