I did this once on my Passat. I'm not sure how well the DIY instructions would translate to our A6's. The info was on passatworld.com. Sorry I can't be of more help.

here is DIY for passat. I just took it to the shop since the car requires an alignment after these are installed.Factor in the cost of the alignment and the package doesn't seem bad.

Luckily I have the Fidelity extended warranty. I just had all 4 of my uppers replaced at the dealer. Cost was $1,400. But I got away with paying $100 deductible and $149 for alignment.

Why did you need to get the uppers replaced - uneven tire wear? Usually, the lower is first one to get shot.

I had my front upper replaced due to a failed bushing. The problem manifested itself in a clunking sound over washboard type bumps. Covered under warranty, but it took some coaxing.

I have the same issue. Failed bushing. I need to replace the 4 upper control arms. Any suggestions on where to buy them? Audipartsnationwide is $179 each. Whoa.

My rear struts could use replacing too.

I guess it does have 106k miles.

well you can just buy the bushings which is A Lot cheaper.... but then you run into getting the bushing pressed out then getting the new bushing pressed in.

The main reason I started this thread was to if any one knew the procedure for getting the upper control arms out. also if there I need to (adjustments etc..) when putting them back in.

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!!!

This should help, since the A6 C5 and the A6 C6 front suspensions are very similar:
