I've trying to update my MMI, but I'm hitting an issue:
At the point where I click on SWUpdate -> CDROM... 1 of a few things happen:
a) It will sit at "Reading Meta Information..." for a long time (5 minutes+?)
b) It will quickly result in an error "Error in Metainfo file, Line xyz. Try again / Cancel". The xyz is random evertime I try.
b) It will quickly result in a different error: "Drive error! MetaInfo cannot be analysed! Try again / Cancel"
The above happens with or without the Dension GW500 in the MOST loop. With or without the nav CD inserted. With either AB and H update CDs inserted (and these CDs are scratch free, and known to work on another vehicale). And I've had no ipods or CDs inserted except the update CD, in slot 1. I had a trickle charger connected to the proper, under the hood, not trunk, terminals.
The CD changer plays audio CDs just fine, even scratched up ones. I've never had any issues with it.
Assuming it's the CD changer, does anyone know if it's coded to the car like the other modules? If I find another one can I easily swap it in?
Any other ideas?

Don't feel it's your fault..my local Audi guru took three shot's at it before it finally completely installed, I suspect it's an Audi hardware glitch since it's certainly not uncommon to have this issue although I'm not sure he recieved those exact error msgs. Where did you purchase your disks?

My best advice = stop trying now before it renders your MMI unbootable. Try another set of updating CDs. If that doesn't work, I'd hit the dealer to have them update it. I've heard of too many a6's and a8's that crashed when errors like this popped up trying to self-update. I did it on my 05 A6, no probs, but still, very wary of error messages during the process.

So I've solved this problem. As I suspected it was a bad CD changer. Bad in the sense that it worked just fine until you tried to do a SWUpdate!
I swapped in a CD changer from a friend's A6 and the system accepted it. I've heard from several people that the CD changer is one module that is "coded" for the car and has some form of theft protection. I see no sign of that - I was able to take it out of one car, swap it into mine, and the whole system worked fine.
Better yet, with the other CD changer the SWUpdate worked fine without ever showing any Metainfo errors.
I've now updated from 1190 to 3360 (using 4F0 906 961 AB), and then to 4140 (using 4L0 906 961 H).
Huge thanks to Audiboy for helping me through this!
