Default Why don't people understand

People compare 0 to 60 not because they want to go from 0 to 60. 0 to 60 is a common benchmark that is HIGHLY correlated to how the car will accellerate under a variety of situations.

Default Rolling start theory debunked.

E550

0 to 60 5.2 secs
1/4 mile 13.5 secs at 104.4

A6 4.2

0 to 60 6.5 seconds
1/4 mile 14.96 at 95.2mph

Some simple math

E550 takes 8.3 seconds to go from 60 to 104.4
A6 takes 8.46 seconds to go from 60 to 95.2

So much for your rolling start theory.

Default "Audi's lower sticker price is more than offset by its greater depreciation."

Very true.

Default Idrive sux, i'd rather have a slow sports sedan ;-)

The 4.2 is still a fine automobile, just that it should be compared to it's 6 cylinder AWD rivals.

On that basis it's fairly pricey.

Default Videos

Watch the videos for the cars. In the A6 it looks like they floor the car and then lift off. Obviously they aren't break torquing the car. In the BMW 550i with a manual you can see the car start quicker, but still Edmunds gets a time about .5 seconds slower than the real performance magazines. In their MB E550 video you can actually see a performance take off, and the MB E550 gets the best time. It might the A6 itself with the all wheel drive, but it really looks like they are flooring the car and then letting go of the throttle. Edmunds got a really slow time for the Q7 as well. It might come down to the fact that Edmunds isn't really good at launching Quattros.
