front oil leak

front oil leak
I have a front oil leak on my 4.2 that's hard to trace. I do not think it's the valve cover gaskets, did those last year and it looks dry in those areas. It only leak when I stop the motor, several drops in the very front of the motor. I think it's the crankshaft seal, but I'm not sure....
-removed the lower engine cover to trace the leak
-replaced the pcv with no improvement
-brought the car to a well respected audi specialist, they put it on a lift and cleaned the lower motor but could not definitively trace the leak

I'm actually having the exact same issue (coupled of course with cam tensioner/sensor issues). I was wondering if it was the oil pan itself leaking through a defect in the gasket and then when under pressure it would leak oil. I see the majority of the oil (which amounts to about a drop or two a night) on the bolts that hold the oil pan on.
Top of the motor is dry and there is no burning of oil whatsoever. This makes me think it's coming from the lowest end of the motor since the areas around the pan are very hot after driving and would burn oil off.
Has anyone else either had this issue or is currently experiencing it?

I spent quite a bit of time with rags and engine degreaser this afternoon, followed by a trip to the carwash for the underbody wash to blast it all away. I'm hoping that I can trace it before I take it to the shop for diagnosis.
I even crawled around with a snake cam under the car and still couldn't see where the leak was from with the oil spread around. I'm hoping the cleaning will enlighten me a little bit.
I don't normally buy an extended warranty with my used vehicles, since I never owned an Audi before I made an exception and bought the platinum plan the dealership offered, seals and gaskets included. I'm glad I did in this instance.

Wake, keep us in the loop of the dealer finds.
GP007, to make matters more complicated I believe this car has two oil pans, upper and lower, if the lower fails, no big deal, but I have read that the upper is extremely expensive to reseal.
I purchased the front crankshaft seal aka front main seal, I am waiting for the triple square socket for the pulley bolts. When looking up from below, there seems to be oil sprayed on the lower side of hoses and wiring harnesses above the pulley. This would suggest that there is oil being sprayed all around by the the crank pulley. I am assuming the source of this oil is the crankshaft seal, but I could be wrong. I will probably know more once I put the front carrier into service position.

Wow...two huh? Guess it's time to get my hands dirty on this one. I'm also wondering why it's throwing codes on the cam tensioners and why she sounds like a '77 Firebird when I give her gas. Idle is also rough but not anemic as well.

I don't have a VAG COM yet. Waiting for the cable to come in. I was wondering if the tensioner isn't getting the correct lubrication due to the oil leak and therefore, causing the chain to loosen...any possibility or a stretch?
