Since I don't need to haul kids, A6 Avant is great. Damn ... good decision. I look at the new Honda CRV's just-released pictures and it reminds me of the Q7 .. aaaugghh !

Look at the front and back. Reminds me of how Lexus imitates BMW.

There is absolutely no comparison. Why even consider the CRV?

Default Not ever considering a CRV - I just said the damn thing looks like a Q7

Just like the Dodge Magnum tried to copy the allroad.

Default Audi is aware of these copycats

How many times have Japanese cars copied from German design ... so many times. That's right.
You must be blind not to see it. I'm am involved in car design and I've seen many times.

Of course they are nowhere the same car as our Audi, but Japanese and other designers do copy. That's just the reality you have to accept.

If you do not have any idea why Audi uses the motto "NEVER FOLLOW" .. that has been explained to me by a top executive at Audi at a grand opening party at the dealer. They are very aware of who is copying and they want to distinguish Audi's as the pioneer in design that others try to copy (albeit very poorly). Now if you don't realize that, you are so naive.

Default no, i do realize that, i just feel that your examples are poor

try something such as tt vents appearing in many new cars, the aluminum gas cap that has trickled down to the masses, the tt grab bars, the ford 500 and the passat, kia and mercedes, lexus and mercedes and bmw...

surely you can think of some better examples since you are in the design industry.

Default Re: There is absolutely no comparison. Why even consider the CRV?

Here is why to consider the CRV (we just bought a 2007 EX-L last week).
First, great gas milage. Second, quiet and well laid-out intertior. Third, minimal chance of breakdown/expensive maintenance (my daughter's 1998 CRV has 138K miles without significant problems). Fourth, parts, if needed are reasonbaly priced.

I have a 1999 A8 that has been a money pit for years now. I will be driving it from Seattle to SF for a transmission rebuild ($3500) in two weeks. Had to replace a headlight assembly because of rock damage, the part alone was $1200.

My wife and I love the CRV! I also love my A8 and am pathalogically continuing to repair it. I will probably nurse it along for another 50-60K miles (now has 110K). After shelling out major bucks for Teutonic metal, having a reliable, inexpensive CRV is reassuring.

For some reason, the rear of the new Hyundai Santa Fe 7 seater reminds me of the Q7
