ROTFLOL..perhaps 3 weeks on the internet equates to 10 years of actual experience Regardless, this thread was a send-off and I hope the Pilot treats you well, personally I liked how it rode, but never liked the fact that internal space seemed very tight. As with any vehicle that a gen older, some of us will be leaving the fold (i.e. Kevin) and others will be new entrants. I might also be making that transition, but not due to any dislike or issues with the car, but as they say "change is inevitable"

Thanks guys for the input. So how do I know it's time to replace the upper timing chain tensioners?

I loved the 10 years with my C6. It was an outstanding car. I wish I had been able to keep it. The C6 made me an Aud believer. By the way, my old C6 with the 4.2 beats my C7 in both exhaust note and road feel. So while the C7 is more refined, it is a step back in a couple of "car guy" categories.

Really??!! I thought it would be better. So C5 > C6 > C7
I own a C5 and a C6. While the C6 is more refined, to me the C5 beats it overall. Road feel and exhaust note are better too in the C5 in my opinion.

Now, I am talking about their replacement being necessary by 150-200k miles. Sooner, on the 4.2's.
I have 160K on my 3.2L 06. Should I keep waiting till the upper tentioners go or replace them proactivly?

Be proactive! I have 155k, was told it was a lifter sticking. It wasn't. Something jumped in the timing chain setup, piston hit a valve, slammed it into the camshaft and cracked the girdle. Metal on the dipstick.

Now I need a rebuild (or new engine).

[Anyone know of a thread that shows how to pull a 3.2 out of a C6 A6 Avant?]
