I got a loaner yesterday, a 2.0t quattro, and man was I impressed. The car had a ton of improvements done to it. The suspension and handling was way better than my '05 A6. I don't think Audi upgraded the ride of the '06 A6 like this. Drive an '06 A4 and you'll see what I mean.
On the flip side the 4 cyl 2.0t buzzed a little while idling. When my A6 lease expires, I'd definitely consider this car with the 3.2 engine; maybe an avant, almost fully loaded @ $46,885. The A6 equivalent cost is $6,600 more and it seems like your only getting more air space for your money.
Just food for thought. I've been driving the A6 for years.

It does feel more nimble but I guess I expected it to handle well. I am impressed with the handling of the A6, especially with the sport suspension and then the upgrade to sport springs. The best handling car that I have had was the short wheel-base TT with a modified suspension. I can definitely say that you can feel the longer wheelbase of the A6, but for such a large car, it is excellent. I hear you though and I can see where one might feel that we are paying for extra space (and weight). An A4 3.2 in manual or DSG would be really nice, I would consider it next. Audi needs to get their DSGs made available across their line soon...

Apparently, Borg Warner is still in the process of developing two longitudinal 7-speed DSG transmissions specifically designed to fit perfectly in the chassis of the D3, C6 and B8 platforms as well as the chassis for the platforms the Q7/Toureag/Cayenne, Porsche 911, Porsche Boxster/Cayman and Gallardo/R8 are on. These DSG transmissions consist of the DL500 (with a maximum capacity of 369 lbs/ft of torque or 500 nm, hence the DL500 designation) and the DL700 (with a maximum capacity of 516 lbs/ft of torque or 700 nm, hence the DL700 designation). Apparently, the Ricardo built DL1,400 (with a maximum capacity of 1,032 lbs/ft of torque or 1,400 nm, hence the DL1,400 designation) longitudinal 7-speed DSG transmission from the Bugatti Veyron is too big to fit in all of the platforms mentioned above.

Yep. Leased one for my wife back in Nov. It is dern fast too.
I have an 02 A6 Avant. I like it better because it has more space. The A4 is fun but not fun enough to give up the extra room.

on their next purchase? Do you believe the ZF currently in the D3 is a long term tranny without problems that abound with the D2.

Right now, the C6 A6 is outselling the C5 nearly as much as the E60/E61 5 Series is outselling the E39. Other than the advanced key (an equally widespread problem with all C6 A6s that is entirely-or at least primarily-responsible for the worse than average first year reliability in Consumer Reports), occasional oil leaks with the 3.1L FSI V6 and occasional problems with the six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission, primarily with the 3.1L FSI V6, the C6 A6's quality and reliability is a considerable improvement over the C5 A6, based on what I have read and heard in numerous reviews from owners and leasees on numerous different web sites. So don't bite off more than you can chew just yet.
