Has anyone else had this problem with MMI and dealer warranty?

I purchased a cpo 2008 a6 4.2 with 8,000 miles on it in december. 2 weeks ago the parking light kept flashing. I took it to the dealer they said they would order a new part. When I drove the car home my mmi system was shut off -- dial and navi, am/fm buttons did not work. Thought dealer shut them off to also stop parking break from flashing since the are located on the same system. When I took the car in yesterday for the dealer to replace the faulty parking break part that was ordered, they said they did not touch the rest of the mmi and that it was broken due to my negligence (basically they claim they found a sticky substance on the system once he opened it up). They also said it is not covered by warranty since it is not normal wear and tear and that fixing the problem would cost $1,200. They claim i spilled a substance on the mmi -- which i never did.
Here is what i know -- i gave the dealer a car with mmi working and the parking brake light flashing. I got back a car with the mmi not working and the dealer telling me that i broke it and it is not covered by warranty. Sounds fishy to me -- isn't a dealer responsible for fixing anything that goes to their shop in working condition and then comes back to the consumer not working?
After paying cash for this car and getting the 100,000 mile warrantly i am pretty upset. advice?

That's absolute doo doo. I would suggest taking your car into another local dealer. hopefully the current dealer didn't input some crap about MMI mishap being your fault into the service history. By the way, where are you located, and which dealer? I wanna make sure I avoid your dealership :P

I would talk to the service head if you have not already, and escalate from there if necessary.

to throw a little more WATER on the MMI issue..... see this prev thread.

My MMI issue turned out to be a bad radio controller, fixed under warranty. Now I'm getting intermittent TPMS warnings.
