Default Heater Control Valve replacement

I changed my heater control valve this weekend in my 2006 3.2 A6
I wanted to share with anyone attempting to do this. I could not have done it without a set of hose clamp pliers. It is tough to get to the clamps and you can see everything, there just isn't a lot of space to work in.

I was tired of HOT blasting out the left side and my AUTO not quite working right. It was the worst during the SUMMER, when I would get nice cold from the center vents but hot coming out of the side vent. Hopefully this fixes it.

I replaced the heater control valve on my '06 A6 Avant when I started to get hot air from the some of the vents when the heater control was not set for heat. I purchased a new valve manufactured by Jurgen Liebisch, which is an OE supplier. Contrary to this thread, replacing the valve was a fairly easy DIY job. w/o buying special pliers to loosen the hose clamps (a good pair of Channel lock type pliers will work). If you search this forum for replacing this valve, you will find pictures and a discussion on how to replace it.

Thank you Gary. I’ve cleaned it a couple of times in the past few years but I think I should replace it now.

I had the same issue with hot air. Instead of replacing the valve, I took the valve cover and cleaned up the metal rod on the solenoids. It fixed problem with hot air.

After cleaning my valve yesterday, I realized that by removing the cover and coil pack, the hose clamps were much easier to access.
