High Octane Gas

I tried doing a search on our forums but I haven't seen this come up.
But last week I put some 93 octane gas and I've noticed a difference in how the car idles and starts up. Now what would happen if I put in higher octane gas? I know our 3.2 engines are already high compression engines, but what would happen if I decided to put in 95, 98, or even 100 octane gas?

Enoch, what country are you writing from? Where can you purchase such high octane gasoline?
In the USA, the suggested standard for Audi is 91 octane or better.

I'm in the in Minnesota in the US. There are a select few gas stations that have octane gas that high. I typically like to fill up with 93 but stations with 93 are also not exactly everywhere. It's usually 91 or 92.
I just wanna try some super high octane gas once for fun. I just don't know how the 3.2 engine would react.

The cost of that higher octane fuel must be extraordinary.
I do not believe there will be any tangible difference in a stock 3.2L engine. If you had a tuned, forced-induction engine, there could be some benefit, but, again the cost would be breath-taking to use that fuel on a regular basis.

Haha, I will not be using it everyday. Just a one time fill up. I'm pretty sure right now 100 octane fuel would probably be around $8-$10 a gallon. No way I'd fill up with that stuff every week.

Higher octane over 92 octane will not add more power, but will in fact zap some power. Octane over what is required, fires later in the cylinder, much like reducing timing causing power to go down. Race fuels that do not carry oxygen does not have any properties to promote more power like some people think just because it has the term "race" in it.
Higher octane is only needed in engines designed with higher BMEP's, as in race engines with higher compression, advanced ign. timing, blowers or turbochargers. Stock automobile engines will not need more octane than 92 R+M/2.
