I have 17in wheels with stock basic suspension. Would 19in wheels look ridiculous?

I'm window shopping for summer tires, and would like to get a separate set of wheels as well. I'm looking at 19in Velocity V710s.
My car has stock 17in wheels and stock non-sport/non-S-line suspension. Would these 19in wheels look ridiculous without lowering the car -- i.e., too much wheel gap? And if I must lower it, how should I go about it? Just springs? Full coilovers? The ride already seems overly firm on bad roads with the stock suspension and 17in wheels/tires.

"The ride already seems overly firm on bad roads with the stock suspension and 17in wheels/tires."
You have some problems if you feel the stock suspension is too firm. Adding 19" wheels to the equation will make it worse.

Wasn't sure which way you were going with your statement - I literally "have problems" with my car/suspension because 17s on stock shouldn't feel firm, or I "have problems" as in you feel the need to take a stab at me - hence my asking for clarification.
Obviously swapping in bigger wheels with less rubber on them will make the car ride firmer, but plenty of people do it and seem fine with it, so that's why I'm asking for some insight. How much would ride quality degrade going from 17s to 19s, and how much further yet should I have to do any sort of lowering?

I have 18's and my car is lowered. To me though, the ride is very comfortable and I am considering 19's as well.

without lowering the car will make it look lifted even though the suspension remains the same.

http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/tech/lookatlowering.jsp

you need to consider the physics of a reduction in mass and how it impacts ride.
I'm using lightweight forged rims vs cast alloy OEMs and even though I went up 2 inches, ride improved.
