Default Interesting anomaly in Audi pricing IMO.

2007 A6 4.2 Tip I would hazard to guess is nearly as fast as an S4 Tip. It certainly feels in the same ballpark. The price difference is very minimal between the two. Decision would be based on need for size vs need for handling right?

But then the A6 3.2 is a lot more expensive than an A4 3.2 so that would imply that the premium to go up a class is worth quite a bit. Yet you don't really pay that premium on the A6.

Bottom line, S4 needs FSI and less weight to make it "worth it".

What's wrong with my logic here?

Default A smaller (shorter wheelbase) car (A4/S4) is always more nimble

than a bigger (longer wheelbase) and heavier car (A6/S6). One can argue that super hard suspension tuning will make up the different. But I tell you, once you have tried swerving in and out of traffic at high speed you will immediately notice the differences between shorter and longer wheelbase cars. The longer one just need more room and earlier reation time to do the same thing. I know because my wife traded in the A4 for the A6.

Default I believe there's a 2-second diff in 0-60 times between A6 and S4...and a lot of weight.

Interior comfort for the 6' and taller crowd is also very different in both cars.

Road surface feedback is also significantly different.

The way I sum it up for myself, and granted I don't own either but I think I'm closer than most, is that I'd take the A6 across the country in a heartbeat, but I'd think twice about it in the A4/S4.
However, from a 'driver's car' perspective, I'd pick an S4 every day of the week and twice on Sunday...way more fun.

My $0.02

Agreed, but in the case of 3.2 there is a larger charge for the larger size.

nope, 2.0 secs. A6 is in the low 7s (yes, the V8), S4 can get to the low 5s.

Default You shouldn't compare the A6 3.2 to an S4

The cars are very different...4 doors is about the only similarity. The S4 drives, brakes and moves very different from the A6, which is much larger and more removed from the road. The S4 in with a manual transmission is a great drive.

The S4 is more than a V8 A4.

I'm not, I'm comparing a 4.2 tip with an S4 tip.

The A6 4.2 is 5.8 seconds 0 to 60, the S4 tip is about 5.6
