Default Larger dia. tires? I now have 245/40/18 and thinking about 245/45/18's

Reason being is for longer tire life, better ride and to correct a fast spedo and happy trip computer also. The ContiProContact's I have been running only have a treadwear of 400 and won't go past 30,000 miles. I can get Michelin Primacy's in a 245/45/18 size and they have a treadwear rating of 620. They should last much longer and ride better being a larger sidewall. The issue I worry about being 1" larger is clearance and tire weight. They are 5 lbs heavier and obviously gearing the car up will slow the acceleration a bit and affect the braking which I feel the brakes are plenty strong enough anyway. I have always had the BEST results with Michelin tires and swear off other brands after I try them for a while.
Has anybody gone to a tire at this larger dimension that may provide some honest feedback on the results. Thanks in advance.

Default I am running that size, it's like a 3.8% diff in rolling diameter

I have found them to be fine. A bit smoother on longer runs, but I have to say, the conti's were a great stock tire, compared to other conti choices made by audi, these were the best in any A6 OEM.

Default Thanks IanB, do you have the sport suspension? Does anything hit?

The speedo should be much closer to actual then from the sounds of it. What brand larger tire are you running? I agree, the ProContact is the best Conti version. I have not broken any cords or had any separation with these yet. Just really want to go to the harder compound and hopefully smother riding Michelin Primacy. Have to go to a 45 to get it.

Default

I went to 255/40/18, which improved the ride and about 1/2 of the speedo discrepancy
