Lifetime Transmission Fluid?
I own a 2005 A6 and I wanted to do some routine maintenance. I asked about a transmission fluid change and the dealership said that Audi A6's have lifetime transmission fluid that should not need to be replaced.
Is this true?
Is this true?

Opinions may differ, but I believe that true lifetime fluid is a myth. If you want the tranny to last 150,000 miles or more then you should probably change the fluid at least every 50,000 miles. I changed the ATF in my 05 4.2 when it had slightly less than 40,000 miles.

I also have a 2005 A6 with 42,500 mi, I plan on changing my fluid around 50K, from my expierence there is no such thing as "lifetime fluid" There is an older thread on here discussing transmission and differential fluid change, you should check it out.

Depending on the vin this is what is required to service your Tranny.
It does not include Labor.-A local Audi, tells me that they really dont do many tranny jobs.Audi does not recommend doing the flushing.FYI-But you might need a software upgrade.

My previous A6 Avant - 1999 - dealer said not to change auto tranny fluid. He said it is a very expensive job as they have to evacuate the system and refil after flush under nitrogen. Car went 185,000 miles with no problems before I sold it - never a tranny issue. I suggest you just leave it alone!

And they changed the ATF Fluid but it says:
G-055-162-A2 Qty 16
You had mentioned 8...It did not have the oil strainer or the gaskets in the TSB...in any event, it is 45$ per quart, and you can get them on genuineaudiparts.cm for 37.80...still, a pretty penny!
Cheers.
