What range was the dealer using? State, region, or national? Oh, and cars that are reported
sold (punched) will not show up either.
Most likely you'll be ordering an '09. They really cut back on production because dealers didn't want them hogging the flooring costs.

There is some risk. But a dealer doesn't need to tell a customer where the car might be,
and if the customer goes calling all dealers in the area, it sends out the message that the car is in demand, which will reduce any bargaining power they might have.
So hopefully the customer likes the dealer they are presently working with, and that dealer is doing their best on the customer's behalf.

true, cutbacks in inventory even for a customer to look at is very irritating....
i've had this done when looking at Audis. i was in the market for more comfortable seats 2 months ago (that goes along with a car) and went to my local Audi dealer. i wanted to look at an A8. they had none, and said it would be 2 months before they would get another.
i said, so what's preventing me from going to cleveland and buying there? this is after numerous statements from the sales manager how much they wanted my business.
cutting back your inventory to A4s isn't a great way to sell cars....maybe that's all they sell. it's harder to say being in a smaller market.
however, my BMW dealer can have 3s, 5s, 7s, Xs, M3, coupes and sedans, M5s, Z4s,....just about the whole line up outside of Alpina. they are competing for just about the same market here. maybe BMW has something that these cars aren't in inventory...but there's a selection.
i was able to compare the seats in the 3s to 5s, to 7s. it should be the same at any Audi dealer. you guys in other parts of the country with more than one dealer have a big advantage. Audi has some nice cars which I like, but their dealer network kills them.

I bought locally.
In the end, the only option not on the vehicle we purchased (for my wife) that I would have preferred to have was Side-Assist. Oh well, close enough. Pictures to follow - we'll take it home Friday! Finally an Audi stable-mate for my '07 Q7. . . .
