MMI Knob broke off...

MMI **** broke off...
So today I notice a little 'looseness' on my MMI **** and then I gently pull it right off !
(... goddamn it... 5K miles and this happens... curses)
The **** is attached (or was attached) to a brass spigot with a white plastic slip with a small ring clamp at the base. The plastic broke just above the clamp so I'm 'hoping' the dealer will just be able to slap a new one on. HOWEVER the clamp would need to be attached after the fact so I'm not sure how'll they'll do that without lifting out the entire unit - can you say "A8 Loaner".
Anyone else have this happen ? I hope not.

Nope. They have to replace the whole MMI control unit. The console has to come apart.
The part is about $1000 but is covered under warranty obviously. Dealers are quoting around 3 weeks to get the part. I had the exact same problem with mine about 6 hours after taking delivery of my car. Someone who test drove the car must have pushed down very hard or something. Dunno...

boy that was not what I wanted to hear... I'm the kind of guy who hates it when their ride isn't a %100.
I'm concerned that it will take an "Audi Tech" to install it... any thoughts on that ? I just had my oil changed and had a question about the Adaptive Headlight System and the Rep was like "I'll have to ask the Audi Tech"... ah ok I thought you guys were up on the new models by now.
