Yes, I'm new at this stuff, but I'm a quick learner. I promise.
I think you can.

I did mine with the engine running. Just don't touch anything while its updating...to be on the safe side. I didn't even open the door. Sat in the car for the whole hour it took.

But my picture is the one they put next to the definition of Murphy's Law.

I drove mine and even filled up the gas tank (left the engine running). I wouldn't recommend it tho

don't worry about SVM too much. It only really matters for cars still under warranty, in which case you shouldn't touch the MMI anyway.

Hmm well that kinda scares me. It is still under warranty, but the service department faught tooth and nail not to do the upgrade for me (with out me paying for it). So I had to take the back channels and have the salesman order the discs for me.

In any case, looks like i'd better fill up my gas tank.

If it's under warranty, I tell people to get the dealer to do it. shouldn't be more than a an hr's labor and the discs are indeed less than $10 a piece.

Do you know what the parts #'s on your discs you ordered from the dealer were? Was it three discs? Thanks.

I gave the sales guy these partnumbers and he got them ordered for me.

4F0 906 961 AB 33.60
4L0 906 961 H 41.40

Not sure what the 46.10 part number is, so I figured that 41.40 would be good enough for now.

I ment to do the update this weekend, but got caught up in things and ran out of time. So now, the plan is thursday for sure.

Hi guys,
I'm also in the same boat. After reading the forums extensively, I've just ordered the 2 CDs from Riverside and an AMI unit from Kafutec (delivery is supposed to be in June). I think everyone will appreciate this story.

I negotiated a price for a CPO 2006 A8 with a local dealer and as a last negotiation item got them to agree to do an MMI update to the latest version. I called the salesperson before pickup day and he told me that the car was on the computer for 3 hours and everything was ready.

When I arrived to pickup the car I got the warning screen immediately and needless to say the MMI version was still 1190. The sales guy and his manager made some lame explanation that the service people said that there were no further updates to be done that 1190 was the latest version. As a consolation prize they gave me a 2008 NAV DVD.

I sat at the sales guy desk and pulled up one of the TSBs that described the update procedure and they seemed pretty shocked about it. Also they couldn't answer what went on for 3 hours while the car was on the computer. So in the end they agreed to knock $300 off the price if I would do it myself and I got a new NAV DVD.

I just got a response from Carson@riverside that they are no longer selling the upgrade CDs because "they got into trouble for it"
