OK. So here is what I've figured out. Hopefully it will help future readers.

I have the AMI input on my 2011 A6.

The white adapter pictured above from 30 pin to lightning does NOT work.

I purchased the cable pictured above (4F0051510AC) from my local Audi dealer and it DOES work. I was able to control my iPhone 7 from the MMI dial and all of my music, artists, albums etc were listed on the dash display.

HOWEVER, I think I'm still going to return it and buy the "tune2air" device instead. Even though the cable worked it is a bit of nuisance to have to have my phone in the glove box.

I will update this post once that arrives and let you know how that's working

I have a 2010 A6 with the 30-pin AMI cable, I was trying to get my iPhone 6 (and then 7) to play on the stereo system like you.

I ended up getting a CarPro bluetooth adapter that plugged into the 30-pin plug. Works well, I don't like making calls through the car's bluetooth, but it's supposed to work. The music plays very well without any cut-outs.

Did the (4F0051510AC) part allow you to play Pandora and other music Apps through your MMI dial & display as well?

I just bought an Iphone 7 and realized I may have trouble with my 2011 Q5. So, I haven't opened the box for the phone yet. LOL

Also I am curious how the "tuneair" Device worked for you before I buy one of those.

To be honest. I am very confused by all of this. I just bought my Q5 and am not even used to the MMI control haha.
My panel is right by the shift and cupholders, like WTF!
And as for the phone connector~Even back in 2011 when we had ipods, the glovebox was still a stupid place to put it.

NICE! I heard that through other threads and Q & A that
if your vehicle has AMI then the tune2air (type product) will work, if you have MMI it will not be compatible.

When you plug it in and search Bluetooth via MMI it comes up as iPhone and u enter code 0000. Then just play in phone. Easy!! And quality is great
