Default Navigation problems.

I have posted a few pictures of the Navigation Screen for a couple of instances of direction errors (there are more). I asked Audi to look at the problem at my last service but, as you can see, the problem continues. Are others having similar problems?

In this picture the navigator is telling me to leave Hwy 12 and to take a detour before returning to Hwy12. There is no reason for this as Hwy 12 is a major highway.

As above but with some more information.

In this view the navigator is taking me on a serious detour. My destination is to the North East, about 130 Km away on major highways. The navigator takes me West on Hwy 12, North on Hwy 2 and the East on Hwy 13 for an additional 160 kilometers. Why?

I tried to add some additional clearer pictures but the picture poster stopped working for me.

Do you have it set to go the fastest or shortest route?

Default Must be set to go the "scenic" route...

Seriously, I've encountered instances where it wants me to go in a somewhat circuitous route, but never 160kms out of the way.

Could be that coverage in the map database isn't complete enough or the guidance software just isn't picking up on the better route. Is this a remote area?

I doubt there's anything wrong with the unit other than the fact that Audi's navi is not among the best.

I agree that Audi's NAV is not the best. Especially the more you zoom in. And either my S6 is to fast or the LCD screen refresh rate is not fast enough. It tends to flicker a lot. My daughters Jetta GLI NAV isn't as bad. And my old Caddy CTSV never had that problem. I think in your case its a software issue, not having the data needed.
Try another route and see if its just there.

Good Luck

Do you have it set to avoid highways, toll roads etc.? Check your Nav preferences.

Default Funny - seriously though - it sees the roads as it will sometimes use the very roads

it other times avoids. Just pick a different town down the same road and it will follow the road correctly. Also, as soon as you pass the half way point it will recalculate to the correct route but sometimes want you to go down gravel roads to reach the destination.

Changing the preferences makes no difference, I have tried every setting.

Default Changing the Nav preferences does not change anything.

Believe me, I have tried.

I have an old Garmin 2620 which does a much better job of picking the best roads.

Default Must be the algorithms used by the software for that particular area

I've used several different navi systems and none of them has been perfect. My TomTomGo took me on a wild goose chase into a field w/ dirt roads in Phoenix once. Kept taking me around in circles until I finally found my own way out.

I hate to say it, but there's probably not a lot you can do about it. If you're not on the most recent map version, you could try upgrading, but I don't think I'd bet on that fixing things unless you're several versions behind.

Default No, as I'm not certain it is the maps which are at fault.

It my be in the logic of the navigation software.
