Newbie Question about 2006 A6 Navigation
I just bought a new(to me)2006 A6.It does not have Nav in it but there seem to be cables hanging near the rack in the trunk.I would like to know if that is the prewiring for Nav and all I have to do is add the Nav Unit..Thanks in advance.

You have to make sure you have all the connections and the prewiring for the antenna/mmi insterface. If you go then you shouldn't have a problem buying a unit and putting it in. Just double check multiple times because the last thing you want to do is fry something electrical in your verhicle.

Our 2006 has technology pkg and Nav----
Best advice I can give you is.
Get a Garmin and save your $$$$.
The Audi nav even with voice activation is so clumsy.

I like that my car is fully loaded but since the Nav is dvd based it could lag at times and as with technology streets change and its easier to keep up with that using a portable nav unit instead of having to purchase a new nav disk every few years.

garmin much better then audi
you can copy locations to/from the unit
it reads street names
it has touch screen with full keyboard.
it cost literally ten times less.
you can take it with you.

I've been considering adding NAV to my car, but it is really that bad? I know it doesn't do TTS street names and it doesn't have a touch screen. What else do you find very poor, clumsy or aggravating about its use? Anything good to say about it?
I have zero experience with Audi's NAV system so I'm really curious. I'd love to get rid of the mount and wiring for my Magellan, but not if I'm going to spend north of a grand and regret it.
Thanks for any responses.

Could you (or other Audi NAV owners) elaborate a bit on your impressions of its use?

if you want to manipulate with map - you have to use combination of generic buttons and wheel which is counterintuitive.
it does not pronounce street names, which was quite useful.
it has nice small screen in front of you.
it has very convoluted way to enter destinations. you cannot enter gps coordinates at all.
you cannot change settings. i.e. it always calculates route expecting me driving 55MPH on interstate and 35MPH on steets. in real life it should be 75 v. 15.
no traffic reports
garmin has MP3 player and audio book player.
cannot load speed cameras poi.
very expencive.
quite a list.

i disagree with everything except the part about speed cams. i find audi's system, especially the newest one, to be the easiest, most intuitive, system on the market. and i've used all of them.

05 A6 with Nav. I loved it. I say loved, because, like every electrical thing in my car, it broke. Dealer says new part is $1,200. God knows what he'd want to put it in. I found the thing very easy to use and I miss it every day.
P.S. I've got a Garmin and hate it. Don't like wires. Can't see it as well as the Audi screen. Can't hear it as well, etc.
