Newbie to this A6 forum. I'm looking to replace my 2000 540i and am considering an A6 4.2 (don't like the new 545 design although the engine is amazing). Want to know what kind of discounts people are getting on the 4.2.

on them for the simple reasons that:
1)Euro is stronger than $
2) High demand on the 4.2 in other Audi vehicles accross the world.
We have 4 incoming A6 4.2 that are all sold orders.
We have not had allocation for one in about 60 days and if we order one now, we will be lucky to see it here by the month of May.
If you can get one, you will absolutely love it. You are right, the 545 has an excellent engine, but you won't be disapointed by the A6 4.2.

I purchased a new 2005 A6 on December 11, 2004, the discount was $1825 off striker. It was purchased in Pittsburgh PA, but the vehicle was located in Ohio.

location and demand/supply all play into pricing.
Alex is correct in that the 4.2 V8 engine is used across so many platforms and many of those vehicles are in good demand. It's cutting into production capacity. Steps are being taken to change that, but for now, it means it can be hard to get enough V8 engined cars.
So if you want a V8 in a popular colour (one of the greys with amaretto int), you might be looking at MSRP.
