When I started my 2005 A6, all four buttons around the MMI center dial showed red lights for 20-30 seconds, the display screen went blank for a couple minutes, went to an Audi MMI interface screen I've never seen, and finally to the lawyer screen. Pressing the dial did not "accept" and I couldn't go to the display.
I could change Sirius channels using the mode on the steering wheel.
Next time I started, things were OK.
Any ideas what happened? I'd like to have something to suggest to the Audi service department.
Thanks.

in fact, Audi deliberately chose QNX's RTOS (real time OS) over Microsoft because M. wanted to control more than the dashboard. Also the GUI was developed with Altia Design tools.
Thought the geeks would like to know this...
btw. Windows CE is the OS behind iDrive.

than I-drive. I-drive seems really sluggish at times. I have no idea whether or not Microsoft deserves the blame for that, or someone else.

From these comments, it sounds like my MMI computer crashed and rebooted several times in a row. Right?

Can we assume your MMI re-boot issue resolved itself? My '04 D3 does a re-boot as you described maybe once every 4 months or so and I normally can attribute it do a MMI "location" button being partially "stuck" in a corner in the down position thus causing MMI havoc. I have contributed these to two causes. One time a noticed a grain of salt causing a button to catch the button, the others times when I was pushing buttons too fast a corner will get stuck down because I didn't push it down cinpletely or was push on an offset causing button to "catch" under a corner. If any of this makes since..........!!!!!!!! PS I keep a can of compressed air spray around the garage to keep the "dust" at bay.
