Ok here we Go!- On my way Home today the Oil warning light came on.-This is the 2nd time it has come on since Ive had the car.Since my first car in 1978 a Lancia Beta coupe ,I have never needed to worry about oil issues.
The first time it Happened the local Audi dealer's Service Technician indicated that the 3.2 A6's just need to be topped off every so often ,with half a quart.I said non sense!-But he insisted that that is how these C-6 2005 to 2008's run.
I don't buy it.Can anyone give me an insight on this?-I want to have as much info/ammo when I contact Audi of America.
This is My 5th Audi,I have NEVER had to top of the oil.-Please let me know your thoughts and experiences. Thanks,Ernesto

My 05 4.2 uses more than 1 quart per 5,000 miles. I see my lights come on every month!!!
Dealer says it is normal but I have heard of other owners never needing to refill their oil.
As a result, my spare tire compartment carries at least two quarts of Mobil 1 all the time.
Very frustrating....

I have not had to add any oil (fortunately) between changes on my 3.2, but a Lancia Beta Coupe? Just seeing that sent a chill down my spine. Flashback to the day before I left for college freshman year and my brother's then very new Zagato dumping its trans in the Quick-Check parking lot... with me behind the wheel. It wasn't a happy day.

My 2008 A6 with 21K on it uses oil as well. At least a qt every 2500 miles. Dealer says a qt in 5k is normal and I have had them do an oil consumption check. I think they put a high viscosity additive in and then it does not use oil. This has happend twice. They also state that it takes 25k for the rings to seat and I think this is bull. I don't think there is anything really wrong with the engine but I agree it should not use this much oil. Like the car but it may keep me from buying another.

My wife's former 2006 A6 4.2 used more than a quart every 2,500 miles. Dealer said it was normal, and it did so regularly for the entire 55,000 miles she had the car.
Her new 2009 S6 5.2 hasn't used any oil so far in its first 3,000 miles. So far, so good.
