Default Paging S6 owners, how does the S6 do on bumpy city streets?

"But those same lumpy asphalt roads started to be a bit jarring after awhile. It feels a bit too tied down, even for a car with the "S" designation. Sure, damping is great on smoother roads with longer-wave undulations, but we wonder how the busy feel will translate to L.A. freeways and other poor-pavement areas we could name at home."

Edmunds

"Driving Impressions With its tremendous balance and eager powertrain, the S6 is a joy to blast through paved switchbacks. However, the downside is a rather stiff ride not ideal for the daily commute. "

Autoweb

"It's not firm in a controlled way. It's firm like the matron in a Carry On film. It's firm to the point where you start to laugh at its complete inability to ride with grace or panache over absolutely anything.

I would love to meet the team who designed it, because I do not believe that anyone who has ever driven "a car" before could possibly have fitted this and thought it might do. "

Default Re: Paging S6 owners, how does the S6 do on bumpy city streets?

The S6 is too tight for city streets. The ride is jarring on uneven roads and tough to enjoy everyday. I typically drive in Westchester NY (20 miles from NYC), NYC, Long Island and I love the car but on some highways and city streets the ride sucks. Its actaully more jarring than my SL55 (19" wheels) or my previous BMW 545i (19" wheels).

But on parkways the car is fantastic. Overall the car is a great "bargain" considering the entire package but imo the biggest weak points are:

1) Ride to harsh
2) Transimission is either too removed or too twitchty

Item 2 hopefully can be fixed via software upgrade and Item 1 with some after-market suspension upgrades next year!

Default What about switching to 255/35YR19 or 255/40YR19 tires....

instead of using the original equipment 265/35YR19 tires (which are Continential summer ultra high performance tires; I don't know the model, though). They say that Michelin Pilot Sport All Season ultra high performance tires can improve the ride and/or handling of any car drastically. Even though the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires do not yet come in the 265/35YR19 size that is original equipment with 19 X 9 inch wheels on the C6 S6, they do come in the 255/35YR19 and 255/40YR19 sizes that I just mentioned. Both of these 19 inch tire sizes do fit on 19 X 9 inch wheels very easily.

Smaller sidewall would be even stiffer no?

Default Smaller sidewall would be even stiffer no? Yes, it would, generally speaking

But a 255/3519 tires sidewall are the same size as a 265/3519 tires sidewall. A 255/4019 tires sidewall is larger than a 255/3519 and 265/3519 tires sidewall.

Many buyers of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires and magazine editors and those at The Tire Rack and discount tire agree that this particular Michelin tire rides and/or handles better or substantially better than other all season and summer performance, high performance and ultra high performance tires, regardless of whether these particular Michelins have a smaller sidewall and wider treadband, larger sidewall and narrower treadband, smaller sidewall and narrower treadband or larger sidewall and wider treadband than other tires that are the in the categories that I just mentioned.

Braking is also better or substantially better, too, regardless of specification of this particular Michelin tire.

But like all other all season or summer performance, high performance or ultra high performance tires, the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season ultra high performance tires cannot be driven in snow, sleet or ice.

In the rain and dry, however, few tires can match and very, very few tires can exceed these Michelins.
