I told them the DSP Bose settings were switching to normal, etc. (thanks for your links!)
They got factory authorization to update the software but the new softward wouldn't "take" when uploaded to my MMI. So the factory agreed to send them a new 2008 "module" with the newest software pre-installed. The problem is that it will take a week or 2 for that to get here (from Ingolstadt I gather). In the meantime, they seem to have fried my existing system and are telling me that they can't restore the default settings! So...I may be without my baby for 2 weeks. I do have a nice '07 A8 SWB as a loaner, but I would much rather have my car of course.
The dealer is going to try to establish some sort of download link with the factory today to see if the original SW can be restored, but, for some reason they are not optimistic. I'm thinking that they actually screwed something up in the SW update and really did fry my system.
Just thought you (and others) would like a report. The A8 is nice though.

they save the A8s, if possible for the S6, S8, A8, R8 bunch. That said, I have gotten everything from A3 to A4s to A6s before. This is only my third A8 loaner in 8 years of dealing with Pacific. Actually, I liked zipping around in the A3s (for a day or so anyway!).

I am noticing that I really prefer the updated look of the interior of the S6. The A8 almost looks dated in comparison (almost...still much better than MB and BMW interior). The A8 is certainly sumptuous but the S6 is more fresh, contemporary look. I actually prefer the dash screen in the S6 to the flip up one in the A8.
OTOH, I LOVE the A8's suspension. The S6 is great for high speed cornering but really does not handle rough pavement well. The A8 eats it up.
I'm also missing the Sirius radio in my car (not activated on the loaner) and a BT module for my phone. I gather the BT is a separate module in the 2007 A8 as opposed to included with the newer technology available in the S6.

that is removed for the demo. I went through the MMI looking for BT pairing ability and it isn't there.
BTW, just got a call from dealer that they were able to reset my MMI to defaults and, allegedly, the car is ready for pickup. Now I'm in the "watch what you wish for" mode. I'm hoping that everything works correctly over the next 2 weeks. The A8 was starting to grow on me!

Knock on wood...Nav- check; All radio settings- check; BT working- check. All systems seem to be operating properly. Even the service tech was surprised.
