He all but ran VW into the ground with the W8 Passat, Phaeton, etc. VW is still a mess, and I think his meddling won't help. It also doesn't bode well for Lamborghini or Bugatti or Bentley, as those brands as well as the Audi R8 can and do compete with some Porsche models. Can niche maker Porsche offer mass market VW any assistance, given Porsche keeps honing the same designs or farms out cars like the Cayenne and upcoming Panamera to VW? Amid conflict last year Piech stepped down from VW's board in exchange for 2 of Porsche's people coming onto that board. With BMW's highly acclaimed Bernd Pischetsrieder leaving, who will rein in Piech's folly's? Pischetsrieder was fighting an uphill battle to turn VW around, but Piech's minions were fighting every step of the way. He's no doubt happy to leave and will have no problems finding a new position.
