Default Premature Brake Wear

Got a brake pad wear light at 23000 miles. Dealer says pads and rotors need replacing. Is this normal. I have never replaced pads that early on any car. What's typical?

Default I'm still on the original pads...

I learned to drive in Paris traffic, and now commute to Boston...so much for typical ;-)

Default Emergency Brake Light

Is it the same as the emergency brake light?

I only have about 35k on the car, and mine has flashed 3 x over the past few weeks.

I was going to take it in to see if there was something wrong with the cable or electronics.

That would really suck if I have to pay for new brakes.

The cause of the emergency brake light may be as simple as low brake fluid

Default Re: Premature Brake Wear

At 35K miles. Rear pads are worn all the way down. I have an A6. 2004 3.0 Quatro. I replaced the pads this weekend. I thought it was strange that the front pads still had a lot of 'meat' left on them and did not need to be replaced. Seems this is typical for the Audi A6. I replaced the pads myself, they were straight forward, following the technical notes on this web site. I got the pads from Tire Rack
