Problem with Gateway install / Constant power mystery??
I recently installed the Gateway 500 in my '06 A6, and ran into an issue with the unit shutting down my entire MMI- I trouble shot the fuse, wiring, ect., then backed the system install out and MMI worked fine. Eric at Bumperplugs sent me the email below stating the instructions from the Gateway 500 install thread are incorrect: that the wire said as constant is actually "switched".....(see below email). Why has this not come up on this thread if this is the case????? If it is true, does anyone know what wire on the glovebox harness contains constant power?
Note from an Audi customer:
Given my experience – I’d say he connected to switched power. It resets every time the car shuts off…simple. In fact, in my install directions, I point people to switched power – it was a mistake in the directions…

Try getting the unit wired into the correct unswitched power (must be constant power all the time, not turned off when car is off)….and this thing should work just fine.

That link doesn't work, but I took the 12v constant from the main wire going into the changer.
Have you not got a multimeter?? Well worth getting, even if it is the cheap $5 radio shack one.

Yes, I just did the install a bit ago and took power from the changer. Specifically the red with blue wire. Then ground it to the brown on the same harness.
As far as a meter goes, that can be misleading. With the high electronics on the car, you can get voltage on more than one wire, but it could be a diagnostic line (will power down after time) or it could be a power-retention circuit, which will also power down. But I can tell you 100% the red with blue on the changer will work a charm!

I have the same problem - the unit is wired off the red/blue wire going into the CD... It comes on goes straight to the cd unit then it all goes off. Also seem to have hit a problem that even taken out - I have no sound now and the system often reports an invalid compenent.
Any help gratefully recieved.

Jester,
I would check your optical MOST cable hookups. I think there must be a reversed flow or the like, causing the system to be unable to read the components correctly. The flow arrows MUST read as the instructions show to complete the loop the MOST system needs to operate. That and check firmware on Gateway and MMI, update accordingly if needed.
