Are you sure? The dealer here tells me that the order book is out for the 2007s but that production will not actually start on the cars until some time in May. And since I have a 2006 4.2 on order that does not yet show a production date on their system, I tend to believe them on this.

Just got a call from the dealer. Apparenlty there was some issue with the allocation. The 2006 4.2 I had on order is being converted to a 2007 order.
So I will have to wait a week or two longer, but I get the newer car with the 350 horse FSI engine (dealer claims the mileage will be better with the FAI as well), and other new goodies like the backup cam.
I am guessing that that the factory simply ran through their supply of the 2006 4.2 engines a couple of weeks sooner than anticipated and thus the inability to build the last couple of weeks worth of the 2006 4.2s (the dealer said I was not alone in having my order converted to a 2007).
Down side is the 2007 does not come with the maintenance included (unless it winds up being part of the Audi loyalty money in the lease). But on the other hand, the residual is a lot better on the 2007 so that should make up the difference.
And with gas headed to $4 a gallon here in So Cal, the real asset might be the better mileage of the FSI engine.
So bad news/good news I guess.
