Thanks for all the info on wire kits. I am told that water leaks inside the antenna especially when my X took the car to commercial car wash, I believe.
So, how does changing the wires would fix this problem?
I thought there is some electronics inside the antenna? just curious.

Is there a guru around San Antonio, who knows this issue with navigation antenna and can trouble shoot and fix it reasonably?
If it costs $300 delivered, a brand new antenna, but if it costs around
$300 to repair it, then I would consider buying a new part and try to do
it myself. I was a bit tired as I completely renovated the car inside out
with new headlights, Audi LEDs, brake module, new brakes front and rear,
renewed transmission fluid, brake fluid, fuel/pollen/air filters, oil change, etc. There were lots of errors and all of them are gone except
the navigation antenna.

the inside of antenna looks like a mother board

who is going to know how to diagnose it then repair it?
would u repair a portable dvd player?
some things are just better swapped

Yes, I agree with the motherboard. I actually was able to repair the power steering booster electronic board in a BMW. It had failed. So, I took it out and had to use a small saw. Opened it and put my magnifying glass, I saw
cracks in the solder, so I resoldered everything, glued it back to together
and it worked. I got lucky as there was a hairline crack in the solder at a certain part of the circuit.
It worked great and saved myself $255.00.
Yes, I agree to swap it out but hope I can use the old painted shell as it looks in good shape and not have to spend money painting that as that will cost another $35-50 I guess to get it painted.

the antenna doesnt move and it is on the exterior off the car
so most likely its not an easy soldering fix
most like it has water damage... daily repetitive moisture
that is harder to repair
to see if u can save the cover
check all 8 area that hold the screws ... if they are cracked and dont secure the screws tight then its not air/moisture/water tight and damage can re occur
Look at the pic above... See those black plastic pieces off to the right... That's pieces that broke off the cover... That's part of what should be holding the screws... Now the screws do not have anything to anchor to.

Crap, I don't think I want to take that chance with the cover.
Howcome, none of the audi dealers have this antenna in stock, at least called few of them and they have to order it.
Is this not a part that fails quite a bit especially in the south where it tends to be humid and hot? Do the dealers repair it with the kit or generally replace the whole thing?

What is the cheapest source for Navigation Antenna for 2005 Audi A6.
The part # is 4F5035503HGRU. I believe the antenna is not getting any
satellites as my x had this car and she went through commercial car washes
and looks like water may have leaked inside the antenna.
Th best price I got was $293.88 with $15 shipping. Is it worth getting a used one?
This antenna has to be painted. Has anyone been able to repair non-working
antenna? Wondering, if it is worth fixing this?
I do plan to keep the car.

Is this the same as the 2005?

No Audi does not repair them... And Audi does not reuse the cover even when it is not damaged.. It says so in the TSB
Replacement antennas are suggested... They have update version of part numbers. Example 4F5035503AGRU ..4F5035503EGRU.... 4F5035503HGRU... The ending letter means the update... GRU means not painted
With each update they make improvements... Sometimes minor sometimes not.
They probably made the covers stronger just before they decided to go with a new smaller design... Who knows exactly y a dealer doesn't have it in stock.. They prob have a warehouse fairly close that does... But maybe bc it's somewhat rare... it was only used on a few cars in 2004. 2005 and 2006 was pretty much the only years. The past 6 years they have been installing the smaller version which I guess has a stronger cover.
@ Roy .. No that is not our antenna.. Thats the new smaller version used in 2007 + models? That antenna may be retrofitted to our cars .. If it has 4 plugs... His pics show a lot of plugs but not sure if they r directly attached to the antenna.

Got the new antenna and got it painted to match the color of the car. Installed it and it all works again. Was a bit tedious partially removing some of the headliner etc. Hope the new one is built better than the old one. They both look the same though.
I also torqued the torx bolt. Navigation now works and I have not tried the satellite radio as I don't have the subscription.
Cheers
