Default S6 downshifting problem, doesn't "blip" the throttle or Rev match

On occasion, maybe once or twice a week. My 08' S6 will stop revmatching on downshift. So when you downshift with the paddles, the car will lurch and slow down as the gear engages.

This is solved only by shutting off and restarting the car.

Any ideas?

Not sure if it is the same problem ...I would describe what was happening to my s6 as a "pop the clutch" feeling when going from a downshift to re-acceleration (genrally at slow speeds ie slowing to a yeild the starting off). After a year of trying to demonstrate this to my dealer we finally were able to replicate the problem and then they immediately fixed it with the following solution (I think the numbers below are technical support bulletin numbers):
15575 TCM software up date, access code 304316 flash tcm & replace tran fluid with updated fluid (blue

Has anyone else had sucess with the dealer getting the transmission updated and/or fluid changed under a TSB to solve this problem? I am experiencing the same problem with my 2008 S6 with 53K miles.
TIA, Bob

That TSB info is NOT for what this thread is describing. That was for a noise during upshifts intermittently. The software was used due to a different ATF used.

I had both of these problems
1)op's problem of engine not blipping the throttle for a downshift. This occured when I had a check engine light on (running lean, found vac leak at oil separator). Prob was fixed when vac leak was fixed... maybe not the case in your scenario but thought it could be something to look at

2)and s6staudi's problem of "pop the clutch" feeling when coming to a slow stop and then re-accelerating. Still haven't fixed the problem but have been looking into it. A lot of cars share our s6 tranny, like some Jags and Range rovers (zf 6hp6 trans) which share the same problem. If you look at thelurch.com you can see this problem demonstrated. Seems to be fixed by trans fluid change and reprogram, which I will have to try soon. If anyone else has had this problem it would be helpful to also let us know what was done.
