Default Service Interval Display.

So I am a bit confused. Do I need to service my car based on the Service Interval Display in the MMI? Or based on what the dealer says every 5,000 miles for a major/minor service. Because my parents say that they only service the car when the service reminder light comes on?

Lastly, what do you guys recommend for the time between oil changes?

Thanks

Audi recommend service and oil change is every 10000 miles or 12 months.

When I purchased my 05 4.2 back in 2005 the service tech said if you bought the car get the oil changed every 5,000 miles, if you leased it change it every 10,000 miles and let the poor bastard who buys it off lease worry about the problems. I get it changed every 5,000 miles.

Oil change every 10k, I drive my car so it comes up fast. Anything more is overkill, but it is your money and it appears some of us choose to burn through it faster than others.

Thanks everyone, but i am still a little confused. I am always told by my dealer to perform service thousands of miles prior till the service interval display in the mmi says I am supposed too. So I am just not sure which to follow. The dealer or the car?

Also is Audi Service Interval Display in the MMI the same as in the mercs where it is based on flexible service based on driving habits, oil quality sensors, etc? Or is it just a basic countdown meter found on toyota and lexus's?

Thanks just so I have a better understanding.

I think it's just a basic countdown. I do mine every 10k miles. Never had an issue.
