if you look inside wheels arch, and see red struts, its sport.
and just generally by ride height. If its stock, there a fair amount of gap between front wheels and wheel arch.
for firm ride, these are german cars, not floaty chevy

Ah interesting, thanks for tip about the color of the struts. So, I guess it's the springs that cause the firmness, right? When you hit a bump and there's not much "give", that's the springs? Do springs get firmer over time? I wonder, mine must be quite old by now - I wonder if newer springs would improve the ride comfort....

i don't know how old is it or the mileage, but you most likely need a lot of suspension work

So I drove a new Q5 courtesy car not that long ago, and actually the ride was surprisingly comparable to my C6 (even with the Q5’s new fangled adaptive suspension on "comfort"). I think I was just expecting a newer car to be much softer especially with more advanced “comfort” suspension settings, and it made me wonder if I could even further improve the comfort on mine with newer springs or shocks. Guess it will need new springs/shocks at some point and I will find out!

I've had 4 C6A6 Avants. I use them as tools and am not terribly interested in stance, appearance etc. IHere are some of my experiences re:comfort/handling
1.I've had two cars that came to me with 19" in Wheels w/255/35/19 tires, '08 w/std suspension & '10 w/Sport Suspension. Both cars have needed suspension work before 130K miles. The '08 just swaybar links, the '10 with Sport Suspension had ctrl arms done before I bought it at 108K and I did sway bar links at 120K. In my opinion the low profile (35) tires contribute more to this problem than anything else. I got rid of 19's & went to 245/45/17' Nokian Zline AS on the '08 & 245/40/18 Nokian Entyre 2.0 on the '10. Both give a more comfortable ride than when shod w'19's. Another factor in reducing diameter & treadwith is that the hydro planing tendency is greatly reduced. And both cars had new 245/35/19's, the 08 Nokian Zline hi-perf summers & 'Cont DWS06. Also I suffered two bent 19' S5 Wheels! IMHO 19's & above should be reserved for those who only encounter smooth roads or value looks over performance!
For maximum comfort & economy I highly recommend 245/45/17, you get slightly better handling with slight loss in comfort w/24540/18.
I use dedicated Nokian snows Hakka R3's on '10 & Hakka 9 Studded on my new driver who must get out daughter's '08. BTW for the ultimate winter rat AUDI made 16's available in Canada, I found a set in a Junkyard near Ottawa for $150 and combined with Hakka R2's 225/55/16 were amazing but gone with the car which is now approaching 300K.
Wheel & Tire Rant Off!

biggest issue I see here on this forum with new members which come in every day with same questions, is that they have no understanding on how needy german cars are.
its not your typical 2wd NA toyota corrola, or a chevy truck.
these are complex, awd, fully loaded vehicles that ask for a lot of care and money to keep them running.
Hence the cheap prices on resale. You will pretty much pay the same for a corola and an A6 for the same year.... allthough Audi was about double or triple the price when new...
they are not "turn it on and forget that you have it" type a car.
They are firm, solid, made for highway speeds and lots of miles. Drive them around the city on potholes, bad roads, and they will kick you in the face.

Hi stuffinder thanks for pitching in with those insights that’s really interesting info. Mine are the 245/45/17’s so I’m pleased by that.
G-can - yeah deffo agree - should just buy a Camry and be done with it... suckers for punishment I guess!!
