Every once in a while the car will not start. When I put the key in, I get the steering unlock, full power, lights, radio everything powers, but sometimes the starter doesn’t begin. If I keep trying it, take the key out, put it back in, maybe a dozen times, it will start and then drives perfectly normal. No issues after this at all. Usually only a problem when the car is ‘cold’ like in the mornings.
Dealer thinks its the Steering Column Control Module
I think its the ignition switch
Some people on this forum think its the starter
I ran the VAG com OBD and here are the analytics, any ideas? :

I had a similar issue several years back. If memory serves me, the ignition module was bad and needed to be replaced. Of course mega expensive from Audi. I ended up using car-part.com to locate the module from another car, then had to dremel slots for a screwdriver in take out the existing. Had to switch over the existing "key slot" so the car knew it was MY key. A little fuzzy on the details, but I had put a post on either here or AudiZine about it.
Can you take a look at the attached and tell me if this was the kind of part we are speaking about (I know its different for each model year). An ignition switch module is only a couple of hundred $ instead of the steering column module which could be several thousand $ from the dealer.
