So, our temperatures have been rather low lately. Left the car (06 A6 4.2q) outside for about 4 hours in 20 degree weather. When I started it, the car made a loud and very weird noise which i didn't record and cannot describe accurately.

This noise got worse while turning the steering wheel while the car was stationary. The front windows wouldn't go down. i'd hear the motor engage, see the window sorta "shake", and then nothing.

Drove the car around til it warmed up (about 10 minutes) and the noise went away and the windows worked.

Anyone else experience anything like this?

No idea on the noise. Could it be that the windows were frozen shut?

If it was a screeching sound then it could be a loose belt. As for the windows, maybe they were frozen shut.

yeah, the windows were frozen shut. i was apparently low on power steering fluid too. now just waiting to see if the noise (mosquito-esque) returns.

I was getting a loud sound noise as soon as it got cold outside. it turned out that I was low on steering fluid. that was about 2 months ago and the noise never came back

I'm beginning to think that that's the root of the problem. The car will be out in the cold for a week soon so I'll know if it's fixed or not
