Guys,
I went through some standing water at the weekend which turned out to be rather deeper than I first thought and the engine stalled and possibly seized about 20 feet down the road afterwards.
It's a 2.7 V6 TDI engine (BPP).
It got recovered by my insurance company and an initial assessment by the garage is that it's going to be written off as the damage is too great.
I asked what diagnosis they have done, and they only thing they've done so far is take off the air filter cover and found it waterlogged.
Is this pretty much a guaranteed new-engine job? I am really gutted as I have had the car from new and love it to bits!

well you could drain the intercooler and intake plumbing of water, pull the spark plugs, crank it over untill all the water is expelled. put the plugs in, change the oil, and see if it runs. It Could possibly bend rods and destroy pistons if the engines producing enough force. if you were low throttle or no throttle low rpm it would probably have the best chance for survival.

There are no spark plugs in a TDI. (Turbo Diesel Injection)
