Default Is there a need to use fuel injection cleaner?

Hi All,

I have a 2010 A6 and just wondering if there's a need to use fuel injection cleaner? I know the car is only 1-year old but I'm thinking if using it would help pro-long the life of injectors and also help with the fuel economy. (not that it's bad now, in fact, it's a lot better than my other cars, I'm averaging ~28 MPG vs. 24 MPG on my C300).

Thank you.

Jeff

Default It has worked for me

My 2006 A6 Avant gets a bottle of STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner every 4,000 miles. I have 37,000 miles of her and average 26mpg in mixed driving. In May I was driving through western Oregon from Manzanita to McMinnville (mostly flat terrain, avg speed around 48) on back roads and saw 35mpg on the info screen briefly. Averaged 33 mpg for the 140 mile trip. Aside from the recall for the plug coils the car has been trouble free.

I use BG 44K fuel cleaner about once per year in all of my vehicles to help clean and maintain the injectors as well as the combustion chambers. To date, my cars keep on humming w/o any noticeable drop in mileage. This cleaner is also the brand and type sold in the high-end dealers' part shops, i.e. Audi, Porsche, MD, BMW, etc.

Don't know if it is a waste of money on direct injection cars or not. However, the 05 and 06 4.2s are not direct injection engines.

A very small % of DI engines ever experience carbon issues when properly driven and serviced with the correct juices and filters.

I didn't take a position on whether it did anything for fsi engines. I simply pointed out that not all of the engines available in the C6 are fsi engines.

Are you using the BG 44k that goes direct in the gas tank? I think it's called BG 44k Power Enhancer. Otherwise you need some tool to use the BG Fuel Injection System Cleaner.

Find a shop that does the BG induction system service (be sure to stress it is the induction, not the injection, service you want). $160 is the going rate around here. This is the only way you'll clean the valves on the FSI motors. I had it done last week and a noticable difference in economy, throttle response and overall feel. There is a video floating around on the internet performing the service on an A4 with FSI. Google "bg fuel induction audi" and it'll be the first result.

I used to use the Audi one... G 001 700 03 - put half a bottle in every time I did an oil change. But my cat converter blew recently.. which I read is a direct effect of these additives. Don't plan to add any more cleaner additives here.
