Default Thinking about going from '05 B6 S4 to A6 4.2.

A month ago some dumb [lady] blew a red light causing me to smash the hell out of my S4 (w/ 16,000 miles on it).

Needless to say, I could kill her...but it is what it is, and I'm not up for doing time, so I need to move on with my life.

Got the car back yesterday after a month of repair and $15,000 later. Love my insurance. Car repair was so-so...but there are rattles and shakes...and as good as some auto rebuilders can be, I'm still under the impression that once a car that has been working in unison for 16,000 miles gets smacked at 30 mph, needs to be pulled apart and put back together again, it will never be the same.

So a few weeks ago I had an A6 3.2 rental from Hertz...really enjoyed driving the car, and was mildly impressed by the 6 cylinder. I like the space (my one complaint about the S4), and I'm "growing up" now, so the need for performance is getting lesser and lesser (although I still want something peppy and fun to drive).

I think the A6 fits the bill, so I'm just curious if anybody has made a similar jump? And if so, what are your thoughts and impressions?

Get the S-Line or adaptive Air, trust me. You will thank me. My personal preference is the S-line, i test drove a car with adaptive air and i did not like it.

Oh and Sport Seats are mandatory, trust me, you will really thank me.

I second the S-Line comment and find the 3.2 is fine and frugal (and fun).

It's funny you mention that! I to was thinking the same thing. I have an 05 S4 with the same mileage, howeve the car is under a lease until JAN 08.

I want a strong V-8 and the new 350hp in the A6 and having the sport seats, more room and the S-Line makes me want to move on it.

Now if I can just find a way to move my S4. I love it, but the ride is a bit harsh at times and I need more room.

I actually went from an 05 B6 S4 that had 12K miles on it to a 3.2 2006 A6. I just got frustrated with the lack of aftermarket at the time (it's probably better now).

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 4.2. I'm pretty happy with the 3.2 myself, could use maybe another 20hp but all in all it's nice to just cruise around.

But wheeew got long d**k*d on the ACV & the dealership had a tough time selling it afterwards too. Even some of the private dealerships said, "They hated taking S4's in on trades"!

So good luck!

Default Had a chance to buy new 05 S4 vs 06 A6 3.2

We needed to replace my wife's 97 BMW 528. So we test drove 530xi (ridiculous price, crappy interior) and A6. My wife really would like a smalller car (e.g. 330 or A4) but we need the larger car for the family because I own an A4.

While at Audi dealer we noticed a 2005 S4 auto with only 80 miles. Sales guys said that the auto did not sell well and they would discount the heck out of it ($10K off MSRP). So my wife knowing how I lusted after the S4 said let's test drive it.

The car was a "blast" to drive and we both had grins from ear to ear but in the end we came back to our senses and decided on the A6 3.2 becuase it was more comfortable and had the room we really needed. Ended up getting the A6 for $40.8K from sticker of $49.2 because it was one of the last few 2006 models they had on the lot. We pick it up on Wednesday and we both feel we made the smart choice.

Default Sounds like a good choice -- also, even though I'm not excited about the new B7...

nose and design, it is the more current style, and the more I see my car (B6), the older it looks...

The A6 will be fresh for you...enjoy!

Default I'm after the room...it sucks to have a nice, 2-person 4-door car...LOL...

It's really crampt w/ 4 passengers in the S4.

Love the S4, it's a blast to drive...but I think the A6 4.2 will be equally as enjoyable.

Funny, I have been thinking the same thing. I love my 05' S4 Avant. But I need more room, My lease is going to come up next year. But as much as I do love the S4 I need more room. Humm how about an s6?! I wish.
